Executive Director/Coach Derrick R. Brown

Mr. Derrick R. Brown brings 16 years of experience developing, implementing, and promoting sports participation for young people to the organization. A graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s College, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, minor in communications. Mr. Brown was a four-year letterman in basketball and baseball. In 1991, Mr. Brown signed a professional baseball contract with the California Angels Baseball organization. Mr. Brown toured the United States, Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica during his playing career. Mr. Brown continued his education receiving a master’s degree in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University. In 1995, he served as Assistant General Manager of the Nashua Hawks of the North Atlantic Professional Baseball League. In 1996, Mr. Brown worked with the New York Knickerbockers organization in their basketball operations department working closely with their then General Manager, Ernie Grunfeld. In 1997, Mr. Brown became the Director of Physical Education at Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. In this capacity he created and organized sports participation and competition for thousands of youth ages 6 – 19 years of age. Mr. Brown has formed many solid alliances in his various capacities working with the Police Athletic League, Pop Warner Football Association, New York SUBOA, Nike, Major League Baseball, and the City Parks and Recreation Department. In 1997, he founded and served as head coach for the City Divas softball program. Currently, Mr. Brown is a New York City, Physical Education teacher / Dean with the New York City Board of Education and former Head Softball Coach at Monroe College, New Rochelle, NY. Combining his athletic, academic, and personal experiences, Mr. Brown has cultivated a career as an instructor, coordinator, and administrator, who can view management issues from many different perspectives. His devotion and dedication to youth sports has facilitated an ever-growing connection with our youth in New York City.
